Before you start using Wedding RSVP - with Music!, take a minute to make sure the settings are to your liking. In the WordPress menu, under Wedding RSV -> Settings, you will find the main plugin settings:
  • Enable Music Suggestions
One of the neat features of Wedding RSVP - with Music! is that you can solicit music suggestions (for your wedding or reception) from your guests. By default, this option is enabled, but you can turn it off by selecting No.
  • Max Number of Music Suggestions
If you enable Music Suggestions, this setting will determine how many songs each guest can submit.
  • Enable Secure RSVP
If you're worried about hackers and ne'er-do-wells guessing names and potentially making a false RSVP on behalf of one of your guests, you can enable Secure RSVP. This will require people to provide an RSVP code in addition to their name when RSVPing. Codes are randomly generated, consisting of uppercase letters and dashes (-). If you enable Secure RSVP, you will have to distribute these codes along with your invitations (via email, or printed invitations, or whatever).
  • Max Number of Guests
Wedding RSVP - with Music! can let your invited guests add the names of people they want to bring to the wedding - like a spouse or kids. The Max Number of Guests setting specifies the maximum number of guests each invited person can add. Set it to zero to disable this feature.
  • Weight Song Votes
If you have music suggestions enabled, this setting determines how the votes are counted. If you disable weighted song votes, every vote from each person will count equally, but if you enable this setting, songs near the top of each guest's vote list will count more than songs at the bottom. The weighting is linear: suppose you have max number of music suggestions set to 5 - then the song at the top of a vote list will count 5 time more heavily than the song at the bottom.

The other settings on the Settings page let you change the text messages displayed to people during the RSVP process. You can leave them alone, or customize them at will.

At the very bottom of the Settings page is a section for CSS styling. If you're familiar with CSS, you can tweak this to match your site, but the RSVP forms should look ok as-is.

Administration

There are three administration pages, besides the Settings page (described above). They are:

Invitations

This page lists all people who you're inviting to the wedding, who can enter their name and RSVP.
  • At the top-left of the page is a form you can use to upload a CSV file of names to add lots of invitations at once. The CSV file should contain two columns, First Name and Last Name.
  • At the top-right is a link for downloading an Excel spreadsheet of all the people you've invited. You might want to do this if you're using the Secure RSVP feature and want the list of codes (for printing invitations, for example).
  • Next to each invitation in the table, under options, there is an edit link and a delete link. Use these to edit or delete an invitation, respectively. Deleting an invitation will delete all associated guests and music votes too.
  • At the bottom of the page is a form you can use to add invitations one-by-one. Just enter a first and last name, and click Go.

Guests

This page lists all people who have RSVP'd that they will attend. It includes people on the invitation list, as well as people they have added (if you have Max Number of Guests set to more than zero).
  • Next to each guest in the table, under options, there is an edit link and a delete link. Use these to edit or delete a guest, respectively. Deleting a guest will also remove any music votes they have cast.
  • At the top-right is a link for downloading an Excel spreadsheet of all the confirmed guests. You can use this for printing place-cards for your reception, or any other purpose for which you may need a guest list.

Music

This page is only accessible if you have Enable Music Suggestions enabled. It lists songs people have suggested for the wedding. Songs are listed in order with the most popular first - if you enable weighted music votes, the most heavily weighted songs will appear first, otherwise the song with the largest number of votes will appear first.

Configuration

Once you've installed and activated Wedding RSVP - with Music!, configured the plugin settings, and uploaded a list of invitations, you're ready to create the page where people will RSVP. You should:
  • Go to Pages -> Add New in your WordPress admin menu
  • Enter a title, like Wedding RSVP
  • Leave the content of the page blank except for this tag:
    [wrsvpwm]
  • You may want to disable comments for this page - might be a bit confusing.
  • Publish the new page.

If you don't have a menu on your site that displays all available pages, you might want to add the new Wedding RSVP page to a menu or sidebar - so people can find it!

FAQ

  1. What versions of WordPress will this plugin work with?
We've tested it with 2.9 and 3.0, but it should work with versions 2.7 and up. If you try it out and it works, let us know.
  2. Do I have to use the *suggest music* feature?
Nope. There's an option under Settings to turn this off. If you disable it, this plugin will function like a normal wedding RSVP plugin.
  3. Do I have to let people who RSVP add guests?
Nope. Set Max Number of Guests to zero to disable this.
  4. Can people come back later and change or update their RSVP?
Yep. They can just enter their name in the Wedding RSVP form again, and the software will remember everything - their guests, their music votes, etc.
